A Walk in the Forest

The other day Mom and Dad and I took a walk through the Redwoods. I think the pictures mostly speak for themselves.

If you can see it, in this photo we are standing next to a very crooked tree. It curves off over our heads - nope, that's not a branch, it's a Redwood trunk.

Mom and Dad asked some tourists to take a picture of the three of us together. Mom is on a root.

In this next picture, Mom is pointing to a tree growing right on top of another tree that has fallen down and died. She says when that happens, the dead tree is called a "nurse log."

I'm glad Mom doesn't have to fall over and die for me to nurse.

This tree was neat. Daddy and I could both fit inside it.

And this last one is in front of the root structure of a fallen tree. They don't have "tap roots" which means even though they're soooo tall, their roots only go about 6 feet deep. Amazing!

Phrase the Day

I spoke my first phrase today. Well, it was technically a fragment, but it works. After Daddy left for work this morning, and Mommy was taking me upstairs to try to get me to go back to sleep, I told her, "Ba Ba, Da Da" Which she interpreted to be "Bye, Bye, Daddy" like she had been saying with me at the window just a few moments before.

Today was otherwise pretty boring.

Mom and I just hung out around the house because Mom said we needed to rest a bit to heal completely from my sickness.

I still had a couple of stinky stinky diapers, but Mom changed them pretty quickly.

I spent some of the day waking the dog up. He sleeps enough that this is an activity available to me almost any time I want to partake.

I spent some of the day eating. But my appetite is not what it used to be yet.

Also, I had very little patience for my high-chair today. Usually I like it, but today I just wanted to move around.

And when I got bored with climbing things I shouldn't and emptying Mom's bag of bags not once...

Or twice....

But three times...
I tried to do somersaults. I bent over and put my hands down and looked through my legs. When Mom saw what I was doing, she came over to help me get the rest of me rolling. Since Mom and Dad had to spot me, they didn't get any pictures taken. They said they were too wrapped up in the moment to remember to grab the camera.

I enjoy it pretty well, though. I'll give them another opportunity.

Earth Day Art Fair & Sickness

This weekend was pretty eventful.

First of all, I started it out looking cute as ever!

Then Dixie came over and blew some bubbles for Rusty and me.

We all enjoyed that a great deal.

I chased them and laughed when Rusty tried to catch them, too.

She took me outside to play while Charlie's mom drove my mom to Dad's boat so she could get the truck.

Then we met Charlie and his mom at an art fair that was going on downtown.

It was great because there were animals for us to pet.

They had ducks...

and kids - which are baby goats.

There were also human kids there, too.

Charlie showed me the sheep. They looked like they were wearing big fluffy sweaters.

Then Mom showed me a puppy.

Then we watched a rythm band play some music.

Mom said the girl in the first row wearing the yellow necklace reminds her a lot of Aunt Courtney.

After the band we went to see the artists.

Mom and I knew about 15 other people we ran into up there. It's neat to live in a small town.

Any cultural outing is best shared with good friends. Especially Charlie.

Since the beach was just a short walk away, we went down to the shore and ran around a little bit. Mom and I dropped my shoe on the way down to the beach. It didn't bother me, but Mom went back for it.

Charlie and I got to run around on the beach together. We had fun...until our Moms stopped us from playing with a dead bird. Charlie touched it, I didn't. The mommies made Charlie use some antibacterial gel on his hands. It smelled funny.

When we got home, we had some dinner, but I wasn't feeling very hungry. We started preparing to go to an open mic in the evening, but all of a sudden, I threw up. It was not enjoyable. Mom was able to get me over the linoleum in time so I didn't get any on the carpet, but I got some on my shirt.

Since I had emptied my tummy, I got hungry again. Nothing appealed to me, though. I ate some pears and a couple of cheerios, but hardly a handful alltogether.

We hoped I was done being sick when Mom put me to bed, but I woke myself up by throwing up. At that point, Mom brought me into her bed and went to bed early with me.

Then, when it was time to throw up, she made sure I had a towel in front of me to catch it.

I threw up several times throughout the night, but I also nursed for most of the night. That helped in a few different ways:

Firstly, it makes me feel safe and happy to nurse, so no matter how much I threw up, or how much my tummy hurt, I never cried.

Seccondly, it gave me fluids so that I wouldn't dehydrate.

Thirdly, it gave me nutrients so that my body could be strong to fight off the virus.

And Fourthly, Mama's body helped make antibodies to help fight the virus, and I got those through her milk.

The last time I threw up was at 4:00 in the morning. This afternoon I made lots of diapers. Mom and Dad changed 5 stinky ones today alltogether.

This evening my appetite returned in full force. I was able to eat Tuna Helper for dinner AND part of a snack of some kiwifruit, banana slices and cheerios afterwards.

So I'm sorry I didn't blog after the art fair yesterday, but as you can see, I've been distracted.

I feel better, though. I just hope I have a better night's sleep tonight.

Gardening Fun

We haven't posted in a couple of days. Not a lot of new stuff has happened. I've done some vegging out.

And pigging out.

And some general lounging about. Nothing hits the spot like a bowl of goldfish to share with the pets.

I spoke too soon.

Today Mom shared her smoothie with me. She only gave me about a tablespoon full, but it was plenty!

She also gave me some waffle to dip in the smoothie. It was great!

I licked the bowl!

Then this afternoon Mom got out some bubbles. Those are tricky.

Just when you think you've caught one, it disappears!

Later this afternoon, Rusty and Dad and I helped Mom in the garden. She likes to wear big hats when she's gardening. She makes me wear shoes and a jacket.

Here I am looking like a big boy out in the yard.

I did everything I could to help out.

I thought I could be especially useful if I was using Mom's garden tools.

Mom and Dad didn't think that was the safest idea.

So I just pulled some of the leaves off of the flowers like I saw Mom doing. She calls it dead-heading, well... she calls her method dead-heading. She calls my method destructive.

There's no pleasing her sometimes.
